Kid's Music Series: BUGS by Mister G

BUGS by Mister G is a fun, funky mix of songs that has a little bit of everything....and not a whole lot about bugs! The title had me thinking that each song would have something to do with bugs; however, it had more to do with the sillies!  Maybe it is called Bugs because you will dance like you have ants in your pants with songs such as:
  • Bugs-a Louisiana-sounding song about bugs crawling all over you! Gross, but fun to wiggle to.  LoLo and LaLa loved singing the chorus "bugs on you, bugs on me."  I liked the line "bugs of every shape, every size and every color.  Every bug you meet has a million sisters and brothers!"
  • Cocodrilo-a fun upbeat Latin-sounding song about a smiling Cocodrilo.  Part Spanish, part English and was a hit with the kids.
  • Gonna Take My Hat- this song intro'd with a quick immersion lesson in French about the very Mister G himself and taking his hat everywhere he tours.
  • Grilled Cheese-Simple, simple song "if I say pretty-please will you make me Grilled Cheese?"  Seriously, the whole song is about begging for grilled cheese! Hm, ok.  The kids loved it...me, not my favorite, but I did like the Sublime-sounding guitar beats in the background.
  • Friends-"Friends are there for you, even when you are stuck in a pool of glue."  Yes, the lyrics are that cute.
  • The Shortest Song-21 seconds to be exact!
  • Snow Day-is about a boy praying for snow to come so he wouldn't have to go to school.  Cute song that has a happy ending...guess what it was!
  • Shark In My Bathtub-a fast, blue-grass feeling song about a shark that will steal all the bubbles in your bathtub, so watch out!
  • Blast Off-a song about using your imagination to blast-off to another world.
  • Pam The Pug-a good song for teaching the -UG family! Yes, I am a teacher too...could you tell?
  • Brothers & Sisters-a song that any kid with siblings can relate to about how they drive you insane, but ultimately you still love them.
  • Ghosts and Goblins-ghostly moans and groans really had the kids interested in this song, and the fact that it is all about a scary night on Halloween was a hit (it is the kid's favorite holiday).
  • Vamos a la Playa-a soft Spanish song that had me wishing I was on a beach in Cabo rather than in a car with 2 yelling preschoolers and a crying baby!
  • Benny and the Jets-BEST song on the disc sung by Mister G when he was only 9 years old, and it is fantastic!
I give BUGS by Mister G a 4 out of 5 for its creative lyrics and fun mix of musical styles.
