Kid's Music Series: Beethoven's Wig: Sing Along Piano Classics

Let's start this series off with a bang!  For those of you who are familiar with the Beethoven's Wig Series, this CD is the 5th disc in the set of ground-breaking lyrical hits set to classical favorites.  For those of you who are not familiar with this series (sad, but I admit that was me) are way out of the loop-this CD is so fun and creative!

Classical music has always been touted as helping to make your children smarter, but ever notice how some of your favorites can just seem to put a tired Mommy to sleep?  Hmmm, maybe that is just me. This CD takes some of your classical favorites and gives them a triple shot of espresso thanks to the creative (and completely unusual) brainpower of Richard Perlmutter (seen below).

Beethoven's Wig: Sing Along Piano Classics takes great instrumental works by such composers as: Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, and of course Beethoven (to name a few), and adds hysterical lyrics sung by a group of amazing vocalists.

The titles of the songs alone will give you a little more of a clue about this CD:
  • La De Da Sonata
  • Poor Uncle Joe
  • My Little Chicken
  • A Piano Is Stuck In The Door
  • I Like Art
  • Minuet For My Pet
  • Mozart Makes Kids Smart
  • The Pony Express
  • I Can't Sleep
  • Mary Go Round
  • S.O.S.
  • Bang Bang Bang
  • Voyage To The Moon
The kid's really liked this CD from the first song they heard.  Classical music always seems to be a hit with them, but when you top it with the silly lyrics created by Richard Perlmutter they were sold.  The first song La De Da Sonata (Sonata in C Major, Mozart) was sung at such a rapid pace that they were silently listening the entire time! You know what that means as a Mom right?! Ahhhhh we have a winner!  From this song on it just got better.

Two of our favorites are:
  • My Little Chicken: The opera singers singing Peck, Peck, Peck throughout the song were amazingly talented, and it gave the kids a chance to sing along.  The lyrics repetitive "chanting" of "my little chicken is peck, peck, peck, pecking. Whatever she's pecking she's wreck, wreck, wreck, wrecking" had my kids rolling with laughter! This is still our favorite song.
  • A Piano Is Stuck In The Door: The lyrics set to The Entertainer by Joplin are just priceless.  The kid's kept asking me "how did the piano get stuck in the door?" My response "if you stopped talking you could hear the words!"  SILENCE...enough said! (Mommy's favorite song)
This song is absolutely unique in the marketplace and just what I never knew I needed in my music library!  I love the mix of classical songs that I knew by heart with the fun, funky, and highly hysterical lyrics.  This CD gets a 4 out of 5 stars and one you should look into adding to your children's music library.
