Shopping Carts and E.Coli-Yikes!
I recently read an article on MSNBC about shopping carts and E.Coli and I just had to share! I remember with my first born I was a fanatic about using the shopping cart cover every time, but when my daughter came around I became lax (after all one of them was riding in the seat and one in the basket anyway)!
Now after reading this article I don't think I will ever set my child in a shopping cart again without the cover, or at least without wiping every inch of it down!
Researchers at the University of Arizona decided to take sample swabs from 85 random carts within 4 different states. Of those 85 carts, 72 percent had some sort of fecal bacteria! Gross! Of those carts, 50 percent tested positive for E.Coli. The study connected this high statistic with the fact that stores do not clean their shopping carts. The article really hit home for me when they stated that shopping carts harvest more bacteria than a Supermarket's restroom. After all, people clean those restrooms.

Maybe next time you go to the store you will think twice before plopping your kid in the shopping cart-I know I will.
